NPCOH-ROS Goals & Objectives

Philosophy behind setting: The statements are written from the perspective of the Native cancer survivor, their families, friends, caretakers and medical providers. They are not written to satisfy a particular funding source, health program or governmental agenda.

Goal 1

To honor the past and the people who have gone before us, particularly those taken by cancer.

Objective 1.1

To incorporate into the overall conference “feeling” the idea of respect for our ancestors, recognition of their sacrifice for us and with reverence seek their strength so that we may face our challenges

Goal 2

To live life to the fullest by strengthening our support from within family, our friends, community and ourselves.

Objective 2.1

To learn from other cancer survivors, family, friends and medical providers the tools we need to help ourselves.

Objective 2.2

To communicate to others our own needs as cancer survivors.

Objective 2.3

To learn the skills needed to help others.

Goal 3

To strive for a healthy future for Native peoples by planting the seeds to good health now.

Objective 3.1

To expand and strengthen the network of Native cancer survivors, their families, friends, caretakers and medical providers.

Objective 3.2

To develop an open two-way communication between the lay community (Native cancer survivors, their families, friends and caretakers) and the medical community.
